WHY   5  DAYS  WEEK  IS  UNLIKELY  IN  BANKING  SECTOR ?

We have uploaded an article on the above subject a few days back.   Now one of our regular readers has sent his view, which we feel are quite pertinent and thus are placing before our readers:-

Rumours are in the air that there may be 5 days in the banking industry.   It is a long pending demand  by the bankers.    Unions irrespective of their workman / officer cadre, are demanding 5 days week working for bankmen.   But they are least interested to get it implemented as they have not shown strong will for he same.   In my opinion, there is no possibility of 5 days working in the industry.

ALL THE CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE OFFICIAL ALL OVER INDIA ARE OPPOSING THIS OPTION OF 5 DAYS BANKING FOR THEIR OWN INTEREST. NOT ONLY THAT THEY ARE OFTEN WANTS TO MAKE THEIR BANKING TRANSACTION ON EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK, WITHOUT ANY HINDRANCE.    I HAVE SOME EXPERIENCE THAT THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE BUSINESSMEN ASKED BANK EMPLOYEES, WHETHER THE BANK BRANCH WILL BE CLOSED ON HOLIDAYS OF NATIONAL FESTIVAL LIKE DIWALI, HOLI AND ON OTHER FESTIVAL.

IT MAY BE JOKE FOR SOME ONE, BUT 100% TRUE.    UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES I AM NOT HOPEFUL THAT THIS DECISION OF 5 DAYS WORKING IN A WEEK WOULD BE FEASIBLE AT PRESENT.

WE HAVE ALSO NOTICED THAT EVEN ON MAJOR NATIONAL FESTIVAL A MEAGRE NUMBER OF HOLIDAYS ARE GIVEN TO THE BANKER.

If there is any level of truth in this rumour than it will be best for Bank officers/WORKMEN who are working maximum for minimum wages in the industry.

PS :  We at allbankingsolutions.com agree with the views of Mr Sinha to the extent that Chambers of Commerce are against 5 day working in banks and will oppose the same.   However, our union leaders needs to press upon the government and Finance Ministry officials that 5 days working is a norm in all the developed countries and businessmen do not feel any problems.   With the availability of funds through ATMs and online transfer of funds, the need for opening of banks for six days in a week has considerably reduced.   Thus, now bankers needs to press for this demand so that IBA does not link the same with the next bipartite settlement.
